Tips for a Safe Community
HOME SECURITY
Since we are speaking of security, you may want to do a survey of your home and property. How safe are you from break-ins, burglars, intruders, and robberies?
ALARM SYSTEMS
You can install systems as simple as cameras that connect to your smartphone, all the way up to interior and exterior systems that are monitored by an off-site third party. There are many to choose from; just be comfortable with what you choose and watch out for scams! This is your home you are wanting to protect---don’t shortchange yourself.
LIGHTING
Exterior lighting of any kind can deter criminals. Consider lights that are motion activated or that only function from dusk to dawn. Interior lighting is important, too. Maybe use timers to help indicate that someone is at home.
ENVIRONMENT
Keep landscaping away from windows and the siding on the house, or trim it below the window ledge---don’t give criminals a place to hide when they are trying to break in! Keep valuable items and electronic items away from windows and prying eyes!
TRAFFIC & SPEEDING
Many of you have noticed and commented on the increase in traffic we are seeing in the community. 5th Way seems to be a shortcut through Aldea Glen for vehicles going between Kinwood and Carpenter. Our neighborhood is on city streets, so we are limited on how we can control traffic. We hope to meet with the City about traffic-calming ideas in the near future.
AND, our own residents should keep an eye on their speed!! Once you turn into the development, you’re home!—take your time getting to the drive-way!!!
